CHS 100 CHICANAS/OS IN CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY (3)

Three hours lecture per week

This course offers an introductory study of Chicanas/os in contemporary society in the United States. It focuses on areas such as culture, history, fine arts, family, language, education, politics, economics, and social issues as they relate to the Mexican American experience in relationship to other groups in American society.

CHS 364 CHICANO ENGLISH (3)

Three hours lecture per week

Examination of the social, cultural and linguistic factors that influence the development of Chicano English. Investigates the language use of Chicanas/os and the sociolinguistic and sociocultural ways of speaking and communicating. Issues of language variety, influence of Spanish, social history and use and function in the Chicano community. Implications for K-12 schooling are addressed.
