
The Dean of the Faculty provides leadership for the faculty in support of excellence in teaching, research, creative activities, and service; oversees the development of new academic programs, curricula, program reviews and assessment of learning outcomes; makes faculty appointments, retention, tenure and promotion recommendations to the Provost; oversees student academic progress; promotes and facilitates the development of interdisciplinary programs; oversees the budgets of the program areas, centers and institutes; fosters professional development for the faculty and the academic affairs staff; recommends the appointment of Chairs and Directors to the Provost; supervises the employment and retention of temporary faculty and support staff; represents the faculty and the University to the community at large, and involves the greater community in advisory capacities; participates in the formulation and the interpretation of academic policies; oversees teaching assignments and implements workload policies; produce the schedule of classes; fosters open and effective communication among the faculty, staff, and students; plays a leadership role in the accreditation process, strategic planning and enrollment management; meets regularly with program chairs and coordinators, and convenes faculty meetings as necessary; and oversees planning for new classrooms, labs, and office facilities.
The Dean's office also manages a range of academic support services including Academic Advising, lab support, the University Math and Writing Centers, the Credential Office, in addition to publishing the schedule of classes. The Dean's office assists students with issues associated with their academic program including academic probation and course grade appeals.
