How to Create Online Assignment in Blackboard (Assessment-1)

Assignment Tool Overview

In Blackboard, when you create an assignment, a column associated with it will be automatically created in the Gradebook. Instructors can view, retrieve student assignments, grade student submitted assignments and write feedback. Students can check their assignment grades in the course.

Assignments vs. Digital Drop box

Assignment Tool is linked with Gradebook and it is convenient when you need assign grades to students

Digital Drop box is for file exchanging between instructors and students

Blackboard Assignments Workflow

Instructors create an assignment in Content Area

Instructors view and grade student assignments from Gradebook (instructors have the capability of adding comments and feedback) and send graded assignments back to students

Utilizing Blackboard Assignment Tool

Step One: Creating an assignment

  1. Under Control Panel , click the a place you want to create your assignment

  2. Choose “Assignment” from the right drop –down list and click go
    Assignment option selected in the drop-down list
  3. Name your assignment and fill all the necessary information and then click submit. Now, A Blackboard assignment has been created.

Step Two: Students View and Complete Assignment

  1. In a Blackboard course, students click a course menu link that associates with the assignment. Under the title of your assignment, click” View/Complete Assignment” link

  2. Under “Upload Assignment”, students can view and submit assignment as attachment

  3. Students can only submit each assignment once. After a student completing the submission, the “view/complete assignment” link will not available

Step Three: Instructors grade the assignments

  1. Under Control Panel, click Gradebook

  2. Instructors will be able to download, view and grade individual student’s assignment. Click the link of one assignment in Gradebook, instructors can download all student
    files submitted for this assignment at one time and save them to instructors’ local computers

  3. Click “Item Download” link to choose some or all of the student files to download. Instructors will get a zip file with all the student files inside.
