General Manager, Crowne Plaza Ventura Beach Resort
Douglas Wood, general manager, previously with Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts in San Jose, is now heading the staff at the Crowne Plaza Ventura Beach Resort with over two decades of management experience in high-end hotels in Northern California, Wood has been brought in by Providence Hospitality Partners (PHP), of Denver, Colorado, the company that has been hired by Ventura Beach Ventures, the hotel’s new owner, to manage the hotel. Operating throughout the U.S., PHP is approved operator of all major franchises including Marriott, Omni, Radisson, Hilton and Sheraton hotels, but specializes in managing historic, boutique and one-of-kind, themed hotels and resorts.
“Along with the physical renovation of the property itself, Wood’s appointment will upgrade operations through an advanced training process for hotel staff. This is the second critical element of transforming the Holiday Inn Ventura Beach Resort into a Crowne Plaza,” said PHP President David Storm.
Wood served most recently as general manager for the Crown Plaza Hotel San Jose. Previous to this position, he was regional food and beverage director for a nine-hotel-group of hotels in Northern California managed by Interstate Hotels & resorts that included this Crown Plaza, as well as two Marriott’s a Wyndham, a Sheraton, an Embassy Suites, and three Hilton Hotels. All together, Wood brings more than eighteen years of experience in the food and beverage aspects of the hospitality industry.
As an integral aspect of his philosophy of hotel management, he feels that a good hotel creates a mutually supportive relationship with the community of which it is a part. “A good hotels serves the community by providing a location and service that honors its events, and the community, in turn, supports the hotel with its trade,” explained Wood. “We plan to support the cultural, social and business aspects of Ventura with the goal of developing a tremendous synergy between this property and the city.” We have been a member of CSUCI President’s Circle for the past five years.
Wood has served on many boards of directors in the past and currently serves on Food Share of Ventura County, Downtown Ventura Organization, Ventura County Lodging Association and the Boys & Girls Club of Ventura.
