Stop the Human Meat Market
November 13, 2013 4pm-6pm Malibu Hall 100
Come, Eat, See Hear, Dream
We are committed to raising awareness about human trafficking (modern day slavery) and equipping the CI community to take a stand. The goal is not to overwhelm or manipulate people into taking action. Rather, we will ask people to consider taking what they are passionate about and to use those passions to respond for those who are enslaved.
This year’s International Celebration Week will include a social justice theme, which will focus on human slavery, also known as human trafficking.
In unity, the CI community recognizes that there is a need to shed light on this problem and is taking action by hosting a human trafficking awareness event that will be titled, Stop the Human Meat Market. The idea is to host a party from the heart. We do not celebrate the enslavement of human beings, but we do come together to educate ourselves and to rejoice that we can make a difference. Please join us for this party from the heart.
What’s a party without some good eats? Refreshments and small appetizers will be provided.
The World Affairs Council of America has sponsored a 30-minute documentary screening of a film titled, Not My Life. The documentary sheds light on human slavery in 5 different countries, including America.
As every person has experienced, words are not always enough to describe the feelings that come after hearing about such horrendous circumstances. This is why this event will allow for CI's Art students to create art as a form of expression and activism.
DREAM + EQUIP
We will then talk about our dreams and our passions. Students will be able to interact with people that are passionate about topics like photography, travel, working with kids, film, art, business, and everything else in between. Each member of our decided to take what they were passionate about and turn it into a career of bringing awareness about human trafficking. It’s simple, take what you love and use it for justice.
