ABOUT THE PROGRAM
- Most classes meet on the campus of California State University Channel Islands. The campus is located south of Camarillo at the base of the Santa Monica Mountains. OLLI classes are held in the Richard Merkin-OLLI room in the John Spoor Broome Library, a new, state-of-the-art facility.
- Classes also meet off-campus at several locations in Ventura County. Locations may vary from one session to another, but they generally include Ventura, Ojai, Oxnard, Thousand Oaks, and Simi Valley. Discussions are in progress to have classes in Carpentaria.
- On-campus classes meet for 6 weeks, once a week for two and one-half hours. Off-campus classes generally meet for eight weeks, once a week for two hours.
- Classes may have readings, but there are no tests, grades, or college credit, so readings are optional. Courses are offered for the pleasure of learning!
- Classes span a wide range of topics from the arts, sciences, social sciences and more – in fact, all disciplines found in an excellent university. They are taught by University faculty and other professional experts. To enhance variety, no course is repeated within a two year span.
- To take advantage of classes, mature learners must be over the age of 50 and members of the Institute (see the current course catalog and enrollment links).
- Membership may be taken for one year, which entitles the member to a virtually unlimited number of courses in the fall, winter and spring sessions, or for one session, or for those who want to “try out” OLLI, for one course.
- Membership has other benefits such as priority enrollment, invitation to University events such as visiting speakers, reduced fee membership in the CSUCI Alumni and Friends Society with its many discount and travel benefits, and reduced ticket prices to New West Symphony concerts.
