Family Weekend Purpose
Family Weekend has been a CI tradition since 2002. Sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs, Family Weekend aims to enhance students’ educational experience, reconnect families, and further develop a relationship based on shared values with all members of the CI family. Family Weekend is designed to support both the University mission and the purpose, aims, and values of the Division of Student Affairs.

Family Weekend Aims
- Provide families with events that highlight students’ talents and abilities while promoting life-long learning and ongoing personal development
- Continue to assist students with the on-going transition into the CI and academic life
- Develop a purposeful and engaging relationship with parents

Check-in begins on Friday, October 9 starting at 4:00 p.m. in Santa Cruz Village. Check-in will also be available beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 10 at events' location for Saturday arrivals.
CI Adopt-a-Student [top]
If your student has a friend or roommate, invite him/her to join your family for the weekend. Be sure to include the student’s name when you register (CI Adopt-a-Student).
CI Adopt-a-Family [top]
Make a family's dream come true! Sponsor a family by donating the cost of attendance to enable a family to attend. Contact Kirsten Moss, Director of Multi-Access Programs at 805-437-3156 for more information.
Registration Fees [top]
The cost to attend Family Weekend 2015 is as follows:
Weekend Rate (Friday night, all day Saturday and Sunday) -- Cost includes all meals and activities for Friday night, all day Saturday and Sunday morning. No individual event or day rates are offered.*
- $30 for CI students
- $45 for guests age 12 and younger
- $60 for guests age 13 and older
*Optional participation for Saturday and Sunday morning fundraisers - cost to participate not included.

Dolphin Pride at CI!
The theme for this year's Family Weekend reflects dedication to ongoing learning, creativity, and fun as expressed by showing off our Dolphin Pride. You will experience the CI Mission Pillars with various events over the weekend. The four pillars are:
- Multicultural perspectives (MP)
- International perspectives (IP)
- Integrative approaches (IA)
- Civic engagement (CE)
CI Mission Tournament

CI Parent Pride
Wear your CI swag on Saturday and participate in the fun as we award the “Best Dressed of CI” during the Talent Show Saturday night!
Criteria for the awards selection include:
1. The total quantity of CI gear worn by each family member
2. The total number of family members who participate
3. The creativity of how you display your CI swag/gear (think outside the box!)
4. Overall family presentation of CI style!
While attending Family Weekend, CI parents and family members are also encouraged to sign-up to become members of CI’s Parent & Family Program (PFP). The purpose of the CI PFP is to create and strengthen vital partnerships between parents and families of enrolled students and CSU Channel Islands. The primary functions of the Program include:
- Promoting information about campus resources
- Supporting student success
- Generating support and goodwill for the campus
- Creating an interactive role for parents and families within the campus community and beyond
More information regarding PFP will be available at the dinner on Saturday, October 10. Interested persons may also sign-up by contacting Dottie Ayer, Special Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs, at email@example.com. Experience the CI Waterfront at the Channel Islands Harbor
Everyone is encouraged to participate and have fun at the CI Boating Center. To ensure safety, participants must be properly fitted with a U.S. Coast Guard lifejacket and must weigh a minimum of 50 lbs., with a chest no larger than 56 inches. Participants must be of sound health, with no specific ailments, injuries or disabilities that would affect their ability to have a safe experience.
Sign-up for waterfront activities of sailing and kayaking (space limited) when you register for Family Weekend. You will receive an email with further instructions on reserving your space. You may also inquire at check-in regarding availability. A map to the Channel Islands Harbor will be provided at check-in.
Be sure to stop by the Farmers’ Market located near the CI Boating Center from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Sunday!
Kayaking: Hourly scheduled open-use kayaking sessions are limited so secure your family time right away! Kayak at the CI Harbor in our single- or double-seated kayaks.
Sailing: Bond with your family for a half-hour on a Catalina 16.5' sailboat and experience CI sailing with our Lifetime Leisure Waterfront staff and Sailing Club.
Please note: If participants have needs that require special consideration, please contact Josh Wade, Assistant Director of Campus Recreation - Outdoor Adventures and Waterfront at firstname.lastname@example.org at least 14 days in advance of participating at the Waterfront.
