Help us celebrate 10 years of CI this year as we get in touch with our local environment!
Family Weekend Purpose
Family Weekend has been a traditional CI event since 2002. Sponsored by the Division
of Student Affairs, Family Weekend aims to enhance students’ educational experience,
reconnect families, and further develop a relationship based on shared values with
all members of the CI family. Family Weekend is designed to support the University mission and values and the goals of the Division of Student Affairs.

Family Weekend Aims

Provide families with events that highlight students’ talents and abilities while promoting life-long learning and ongoing personal development

Check In [top]
Check-in begins on Friday, October 12 starting at 4:00 p.m. Destination check-in will also be available beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 13.
CI Adopt-a-Student [top]
If your student has a friend or roommate, invite him/her to join your family for the weekend. Be sure to include the student’s name when you register (CI Adopt-a-Student).

Make a family's dream come true! Sponsor a family in need to enable them to attend Family Weekend. Contact Kirsten Moss-Frye, associate director of Access, Orientation and Transition Programs at (805) 437-3156 for more information.
Registration Fees [top]
The cost to attend Family Weekend 2012 is as follows:
Weekend Rate (Friday night, all day Saturday and Sunday) -- Cost includes all meals and activities for Friday night, all day Saturday and Sunday. No individual event or day rates are offered.

Family Weekend: Celebrating a Decade of Distinction
Help us celebrate the 10th anniversary of CI! Ways to get involved:
CI Jeopardy
Participate in the CI Jeopardy game Friday night! We will provide you with CI fun facts to review and prepare for this friendly competitive game. The family with the most correct answers wins bragging rights and CI prizes! This is one quiz families can indeed have “open notes!”
CI Parent Pride
Wear your CI swag on Saturday and participate in the fun as we award the “Best Dressed of CI” during the Talent Show Saturday night!
The criteria for the awards selection include:
- The quantity of CI gear in the family
- The number of family members that participate
- The creativity of display (think outside the box!)
- Family presentation and CI style!
Planting Service Project to Restore CI Habitat at Long Grade Creek
Contribute to the next 10 years of CI and beyond during this unique service project.
Family Community Project: This year, we are partnering up with faculty on a community project where we will assist with restoring the natural habitat at Long Grade Creek on the CI campus. On Saturday morning, your family has the opportunity to plant new life on the grounds of Long Grade Creek near the new University Drive entrance road. RSVP during your online registration. Latin Beaches: Family Weekend Dinner Family Weekend guests combine with Noche de Familia friends for dinner to create an even larger CI family and a lot more fun! Please note: An overview of the event will be provided in English just prior to this primarily Spanish-speaking event. One of our objectives is to create an environment in which all students are successful through support of parents by providing access to University personnel and campus information. All Family Weekend attendees will enjoy our folklorico dancers, children’s craft corner and more! |

SPB Talent Show This is an amazing collection of CI talent each year and heavily attended by the campus community. Don’t forget: the “Best Dressed” CI Gear Competition occurs during the Fashion Show at intermission! Winners of the Speech Tournament and Game Day will also be announced. This is an entertaining event hosted by the Student Programming Board not to be missed. |

Student Organization Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser Hosted by Housing and Residential Education, the pancakes are yummy during this family-style meal held in the kitchen of G1 Lounge. Donations for breakfast are requested to go towards funding for a service-oriented club. The club is chosen by a selection process conducted by committee. |

Please note that families may RSVP to specific events while registering online; however, events do not require an RSVP. Space is available on a first-come, first-served basis for all events. Adjustments may be made online or during check-in, as needed.
Experience the CI Waterfront at the Channel Islands Harbor Saturday and Sunday
Sign up for Waterfront activities of sailing and kayaking (first come, first served) when you register for Family Weekend. A map to the Channel Islands Harbor will be provided at check-in.
Be sure to stop by the Farmers’ Market located near the Waterfront from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on Sunday!
Sailing and Kayaking Options
Everyone is encouraged to participate and have fun at the Waterfront. To ensure safety, participants must be properly fitted with a U.S. Coast Guard lifejacket and must weigh a minimum of 50 lbs., with a chest no larger than 56 inches. Participants must be of sound health, with no specific ailments, injuries or disabilities that would affect their ability to have a safe experience.

Kayaking: Half-hour scheduled open-use kayaking sessions are first-come, first-served. Sign up when you register for Family Weekend. Inquire at check-in to find out if additional spaces are available.

Family Sailing: Bond with your family for a half-hour on a Catalina 16.5' sailboat and experience CI sailing with our wonderful Waterfront staff and Sailing Club. Sign-ups are first-come, first-served. Sign up when you register for Family Weekend.
Please note: If participants have needs that require special consideration, please contact the
coordinator of Lifetime Leisure Programs at least 14 days in advance of participating
at the Waterfront.
