Scholarships provide critical support for students, providing funds for students to attend CSUCI, and helping ease the burden of debt so many college students face today. Not so long ago, students could support themselves and pay for their education by working part-time. Now, most students would have to work more than 40 hours per week to pay for their education - leaving no time for classes, study, or other family obligations. Your generous support ensures bright opportunities for CSUCI students. In general, the CSUCI scholarship program serves to provide student recognition as well as financial enhancement in support of the mission of CSUCI. The objectives of the program are to:
All scholarships administered by CSU Channel Islands are awarded based on the application for scholarship assistance and other required documentation. The University Scholarship Committee, appointed by the University President, makes all selections. The University offers two types of general scholarships: Annual Scholarships: These are funded on an annual basis by specific donors, as well as other fundraising efforts undertaken by the CSUCI Foundation. The minimum award is $500 and the maximum award is equal to the total cost of attending the University. Endowed Scholarships: A restricted gift of at least $25,000 is required to establish a scholarship endowment that is managed by the CSUCI Foundation. Endowment earnings are transferred by the Foundation to the respective scholarship accounts with the University for the purpose of funding the scholarships. The University-administered scholarships program assures objective selection of recipients and coordination with other financial aid opportunities. The Development Office is responsible for the development and coordination of annual and endowed scholarships. All inquiries regarding the establishment of a scholarship should be referred to Director of Donor Relations Marti DeLaOat 805.437.8919 or marti.delao@csuci.edu. The Development Office prepares appropriate draft instruments specifying the terms and conditions of the scholarship and handles all further communication with the donor. For endowed scholarships, the Development Office drafts a scholarships establishment document for the donor's review and acceptance. Any pertinent information regarding scholarship levels, selection criteria, or the process for providing scholarships is included. In general, the University encourages unrestricted scholarships. Overly restrictive requirements tend to reduce the pool of qualified applicants. However, the University does encourage the use of financial need as one of the criteria for scholarship awards. It is easy to create a scholarship at CSUCI! To contribute to the general scholarship fund, simply use the online giving form and indicate scholarships as your choice.
