Institutional Review Board (IRB)

Institutional Review Board (IRB)

Review Committee Weekly Meetings

  • Exempt/Expedited Review Committee - This committee meets weekly on Thursdays to review category 1 research proposal applications
  • Full Review - If it is determined that your proposal is a category 2 research proposal, then all IRB members will be convened to conduct a full review.

Processing and Approval Timelines

  • Please allow a minimum of 3 weeks for IRB application processing and approval.  This timeline is calculated on the actual date of review, not submission. If your research is classified as category 2, then 1 additional week will be added to the processing timeline.
  • All IRB applications must be submitted no later than 5 PM on Monday in order to be added to the Thursday review agenda of the following week.  IRB applications will be reviewed and approved in the order received.

Submission and Drop-Off Information

  • Category 1 research proposals submitted via email to irb@csuci.edu by 5:00 PM on Mondays will be reviewed the following Thursday.  All protocols must be attached in order for the IRB to proceed with the review.
  • In addition, two copies of a complete IRB application (1 original copy with chair/supervisor signature) must also be submitted to the IRB.  Applications may be dropped off in Lindero Hall, Office #1788 or via intercampus mail to Jane Wanberg, Lindero Hall, Office #1788.
  • Principal Investigator Certification training should be obtained prior to research commencing.  It is encouraged that the Principal Investigator Certification be included with your IRB application submission to avoid approval delays.  The Principal Investigator Certification training is offered online at: http://phrp.nihtraining.com/users/register.php
  • Follow the same process for Category  2  research proposals; however, a review date will be sent to you via email.
