Getting Ready: Improving Access to Baccalaureate Programs Activities

The ISLAS Outreach initiative aims to improve the university readiness of Ventura County’s future university students by developing tailored outreach programs for students in targeted Ventura County public high schools and community colleges.  The ultimate goal is to increase direct access to baccalaureate granting institutions for traditionally underserved populations.

ISLAS Outreach activities include:

  • Providing college preparation services and promoting 4-year university educational goals through:
    • College preparation workshops addressing A-G subject area requirements, Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC), transfer readiness & CSU GE-Breadth requirements, college entrance exams, financial literacy, the systems of higher education and the importance of co-curricular activities.
    • Evening workshops and a regional community college conference emphasizing pathways to 4-year universities for high school and community college students, parents and educators.
    • Peer mentoring services.
  • Developing a regional bilingual outreach website to share information about the university-going process.
