How to Logon to the Computer Labs

This guide will show you how to log on to any Windows computer in a campus computer labs or classroom using your CSUCI ID and your Domain Password.

1. Once the power for the computer is on, you will encounter the following "Welcome to Windows" logon prompt:

2. Press the CTRL, ALT and DELETE keys on your keyboard simultaneously to enable the following Logon dialog box:

3. In the "User name" text field, enter your computer lab user name.

  • Students: your computer lab user name is your CSUCI ID + "@islands.csuci.edu". For example, a student named Pat Richards with a CSUCI ID called "pat.richards123" would have a computer lab user name of pat.richards123@islands.csuci.edu
  • CSUCI Employees: your computer lab user name is your CSUCI ID + "@csuci.edu". For example, an employee named Tracy Smith with a CSUCI ID called "tracy.smith" would have a computer lab user name of tracy.smith@csuci.edu.

4. In the "Password" text field, enter your Domain Password (What is my Domain Password?)

5. Select the "OK" button to continue.

6. If you have logged on before, you may skip to the next step (Step 11).

If you are logging on for the first time, or if administrative changes have been made to your account, you will see the following dialog box:

7. Click the "OK" button to continue.

8. In the Change Password dialog box, you will need to enter a new password. Do NOT modify the "Old Password" text field.

9. Enter your new password in both the "New Password" field and again in the "Confirm New Password" field, in exactly the same manner. Then click the "OK" button to continue.

10. If you have entered the new password correctly, you will see a dialog box which reads "Your password has been changed." Click the "OK" button to continue.

If you do not enter your new password in exactly the same manner, you will receive an error dialog box as follows:

Click "OK", and you will again be prompted to enter your new password correctly in the "New Password" and "Confirm New Password" fieids.

11. Windows will then check your access rights and configure your desktop. While this is happening, you may encounter a "Please Wait" dialog box which which reads "Applying your personal settings..."

12. When the configuration is complete, you will see the Windows desktop.

13. Next, select the "Start" button using your mouse, or press the "Windows" key on the keyboard. The "Start" button is located at the bottom-left-hand corner of the Desktop.

14. This will activate the Start Menu, from which you can choose to start programs (under the "All Programs" menu) or to browse the Internet.

Troubleshooting

If you can't logon, do the following:

  1. Check that the CAPS LOCK is turned OFF on your keyboard. Re-enter your user name and password again.
  2. If you are a student, make sure that you are entering your CSUCI ID along with "@islands.csuci.edu" in the "User name" field.
