How to Access Your Old Email
Note about Old Dolphin Email and Dolphin Email Migration
Beginning on Monday, July 16, 2007, CSUCI began using a new Dolphin Email system for official University communication. As a result, messages from the previous Dolphin Email mailbox were not migrated to the new system.
Students were able to view previously sent and received messages in their old Dolphin Email mailboxes until 5:00pm, August 29th, 2007. Previous users of Dolphin Email were notified and were able to copy any new message to their new Dolphin Email account until 5:00pm on August 29, 2007.
Previous Dolphin Email mailboxes and their corresponding email messages are no longer available.
What is My Dolphin Email Address?
Your Dolphin Email address is: your CSUCI account ID/user name + "@dolphin.csuci.edu"
For example, a student with a CSUCI account ID/user name of pat.smith999 would have the Dolphin Email address pat.smith999@dolphin.csuci.edu
How to Sign In to Dolphin Email
Before you sign in to Dolphin Email for the first time, you must:
- Go to a campus computer lab (where are the campus computer labs?)
- Sign on to a lab computer using your CSUCI account ID/user name and your Domain Password (what is my CSUCI account ID/user name? what is my Domain Password?)
- If you have never logged on to a lab computer, you will be prompted to change your password.

You have 100 megabytes (100 MB) of storage space for your Dolphin Email account. This includes all email and attachments in your Inbox, Folders, Deleted Items and Sent Items folders.
You can receive file attachments up to 5 megabytes (5 MB) in size.
You can send any kind of files as attachments, including pictures, documents, sound files and more.
Yes. The contents of the "Junk E-mail" folder will be automatically emptied once every 3 weeks. You should move messages that you want to keep from your "Junk E-mail" folder to your Inbox or to another folder. Please refer to the online " Help" documentation for instructions on how to move your emails to different folders. In addition, the " Trash" folder is automatically emptied every time a user logs out of Dolphin Email.
When you have used approximately 90% of your storage limit of 100MB, will receive an automated message from the Dolphin Email system to your Inbox. Also, messages and/or attachments that would push your account over the storage limit will be returned to the senders.
You should delete messages to reduce the size of your account. Please refer to the section "How Do I Increase Storage Space for My Account?" in this document.

You can reclaim your used storage space by:
- Deleting spam email from your Inbox

At this time, purchasing additional storage space for your Dolphin Email account is not available.
This depends on your individual use of your Dolphin Email account. CSU Channel Islands will not sell your email address to any third parties.
If you do any of the following, there is a good chance you can end up on a spammer's email list:
- Post or sign up on an online bulletin board
- Post in a Usenet newsgroup
- Participate in or sign up to chat rooms
- Include your email address in an online service's member directory
- Reply to spam email that has been sent to you
- Large email providers such as Yahoo, AOL, and Hotmail hold user accounts that have common usernames, such as 'Smith,' 'Dave,' 'webmaster,' 'info,' etc.
Additional information on protecting your email account from spam can be obtained from: http://spam.abuse.net.
You can automatically forward emails received through your Dolphin Email to any email account you desire.
Please note: the option to enable email forwarding is only available when you access Dolphin Email on Windows using Internet Explorer 6 or above.
- Logon to Dolphin Email (on Windows, using Internet Explorer 6 or above).
- Select the Rules option from the bottom-left menu in Dolphin Email.
- Select the "New" button
- In the Rule Name box, enter a name for your Rule, such as “Forward Mail”
- Select the "Forward it to" button, and enter the email address to which you will forward your Dolphin Email.
- Uncheck the "Keep a copy in my Inbox" checkbox. If you leave it checked, then your Inbox could fill up and exceed your storage limit, which may cause you to lose important emails.
- Select the "Save and Close" button in the Edit Rule window, then click "OK" to accept your changes.
- You can test your mail forwarding by sending an email to yourself within Dolphin Email; if it was set up correctly, it will be forwarded to the specified account.
- Sign in to Dolphin Email.
- Once you have signed in, click on the "Sent Items" link in the "Folders" list.
- Then you will be able to view the items you have sent.
It is extremely important that you log off every time you use the Dolphin Email system, especially when you are working in a computer lab.
Logging off will ensure that no one else may send email or use your Dolphin Email account.
In the event that you forget to log out, your email session will typically time out after 15 minutes of inactivity.
- Click on
on the system menu
- You will then be transferred to back to the Dolphin Email home page, which confirms that you have logged out successfully.
- You may then close your browser window.
You may call the Help Desk at 805-437-8552 or email helpdesk@csuci.edu for assistance.
