Network Access

Network Services provides high-speed campus network access to the CSUCI community.

How do I access the campus network via a wired connection?

To access the campus network via a traditional wired connection, you will need:

  1. A computer with a 10/100 or 10/100/1000 (gigabit) network interface card
  2. A Cat5E or Cat6 network interface cable with RJ-45 connectors

How do I access the campus network via a wireless connection?

To access the campus network via wireless, you will need:

  • A computer with a Wi-Fi compatible 802.11b or 802.11g wireless network interface (card or built-in)
  • A CSUCI ID and password with sufficient authorization to access campus network resources

Can I just plug in my laptop/desktop computer into any available network port?

Students: No. You may only plug in your personal laptop and/or desktop computer into the available network ports in your on-campus housing. Accessing CSUCI network resources via an unauthorized network port is prohibited according to the Policy on Responsible Use of Information Technology Resources (PDF, 273KB).

CSUCI Employees: No. To protect the campus network and to ensure access for authorized CSUCI users, access via unauthorized network ports will be blocked. Please do not attempt to plug in your personal laptop computers (or other non-CSUCI-owned computer) into any campus or computer lab network ports. Please read the Policy on Responsible Use of Information Technology Resources (PDF, 273KB) for more information on responsible use of campus network resources.

How do I access CSUCI network resources from home via VPN (virtual private networking)?

Students: General VPN access for CSUCI students is not available at this time.

CSUCI Employees: VPN is selectively available to CSUCI employees based on demonstration of established business need. Please contact the Help Desk to request VPN access and obtain VPN installation instructions.

About Network Services

Network Services provide support to departments for all authorized networking equipment and infrastructure attached to the campus backbone, including:

  • Internet connectivity
  • Virtual Private Network (VPN)
  • Routers, switches and hubs
  • Cabling and Wiring
  • Data ports and connections
  • Firewall and enterprise network security

Information Technology will provide technical support to departments and provide replacement equipment when available.
