SMOKE ADVISORY
Tuesday, October 23, 2007
Due to the wildfires in Southern California, areas of smoke are present in Ventura County. As a result, concentrations of fine particulates are expected to reach the UNHEALTHY level in some areas. If smoke is in the air, it is advised that all individuals limit outdoor activities that require exertion. Sensitive persons and even healthy people who feel ill effects should avoid any outdoor activity which increases the breathing rate. Remain indoors as much as possible until the smoke has cleared. Although many areas of the county are currently clear of smoke these areas may be impacted later as the fire continues to burn and smoke is recirculated due to the changing weather conditions.
The CSUCI campus will continue to monitor air quality and base a decision to close the campus on an imminent danger from the fire itself, not on air quality. There is usually little difference between the air quality at the campus and that found in surrounding homes. To help minimize effects from the smoke, it is advised that all windows and doors be secured.
