CSUCI Hosts Events to Mark President’s Annual Celebration of Excellence

Camarillo, Calif., May 6, 2008—California State University Channel Islands is hosting the President’s Annual Celebration of Excellence. Members of the public are invited to attend the events scheduled for Wednesday, May 7 through Friday, May 9, which will showcase the academic work of the University’s students; scholarly work of the faculty; and the talent and skill of the staff. The President’s Annual Celebration of Excellence began with the Honor’s Convocation ceremony on Friday, May 2.

Celebration of Faculty Scholarly Excellence
Date:  Wednesday, May 7
Time:  5 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Location: John Spoor Broome Library Exhibition Hall
Description: This is the fourth annual Celebration of Faculty Scholarly Excellence
the Library will host. The event honors both scholarly and creative accomplishments of CI’s faculty. There will be refreshments and numerous awards including the Library Legion of Honor, the Golden Mouse, and the Golden Hardrive.
Parking: Limited parking is available on campus and is $6 for a daily permit. Free parking is available at the Camarillo Metrolink Station/Lewis Road parking lot in Camarillo with complimentary shuttle service to and from the campus until 10 p.m. Riders should board the CSUCI VISTA BUS.

Direct Access to the Muslim World – Dr. Fouad Bouguetta
Day/date: Thursday, May 8
Time:  3 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Location: John Spoor Broome Library, Room 1360
Description: The CSUCI Center for International Affairs to host Dr. Bouguetta, a
Fulbright Scholar as part of the Fulbright Visiting Specialist Program: Direct Access to the Muslim World. Dr. Bouguetta is an Algerian sociologist with an expertise bridging the gap between traditionalists and modernists between the Muslim World and the West.

Location: John Spoor Broome Library Reading Room
Description: A campus wide exhibition showcasing the activities and accomplishments of the University.
Parking: Limited parking is available on campus and is $6 for a daily permit. Free parking is available at the Camarillo Metrolink Station/Lewis Road parking lot in Camarillo with complimentary shuttle service to and from the campus until 10 p.m. Riders should board the CSUCI VISTA BUS.

Celebration of Student Research
(sponsored by the Martin V. Smith School of Business and Economics)
Date:  Friday, May 9
Location: John Spoor Broome Library Exhibition Hall
Time:  2:30 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Description:  This event showcases faculty-mentored student research at CSUCI.
Students will present more than 100 posters and 30 oral presentations. The event will also include an art installation and performances.
