Camarillo, Calif., Feb. 2, 2009—California State University Channel Islands’ Exhibitions gallery in Camarillo has announced its next show will be a group exhibition of paintings by three CSU Channel Islands student artists, Chippy Todd, James Cox and Nicholas Capaldi.
The exhibition will begin on Thursday, Feb. 5 and continue through Friday, March 6. There will be an artists’ reception at the gallery from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5., which is open to the public. Regular gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. CSUCI Exhibitions gallery is located at 92 Palm Drive in Old Town Camarillo.
Chippy Todd’s current paintings focus on shapes and forms, which enable the viewer to recognize the human body without imagery that directly depicts human anatomy. James Cox’s recent works are colorful mixed media pieces, presented on concrete-like surfaces. His imagery emphasizes relationships between geometric figures, newspapers, and personal iconography. Nicholas Capaldi’s figurative paintings strive to create a new attitude towards ones life, patterns of existence, and introspective depictions of an altered reality. The work explores a process of deconstructing the human form, creating a sense of time lapse and disorientation between the figure and its surrounding environment.
