Camarillo, Calif., Sept. 12, 2012 – CSU Channel Islands (CI) will hold its 13th Annual President’s Dinner, the University’s premier black tie fundraising gala, on Saturday, Oct. 6, at 6 p.m., at the Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village.

The event will honor Mike Curb, legendary award-winning songwriter, producer, record company executive and former California lieutenant governor and acting governor, with the Robert J. Lagomarsino award.  The Lagomarsino award, named in honor of the former U.S. congressman and longtime supporter of the University, is presented to individuals who have contributed to and supported CI.  Curb’s generosity enabled CI to create the Mike Curb Studios, which offers students hands-on experience with the latest state-of-the-art technology in film and video production, post production, visual effects, animation, gaming and music.

Proceeds from the President’s Dinner support the University’s highest-priority needs, including student scholarships, critical academic programs, and new technology, facilities and equipment.

More than 500 guests and supporters are expected to join President Richard R. Rush, local dignitaries, public officials, faculty, staff, and several special students for a VIP reception, three-course dinner, silent auction, raffle, live music and dancing.

This year’s Lagomarsino Award honoree, Mike Curb, is a prominent figure in the entertainment world, a treasured friend of CI, and served as a regent as well as a trustee  of the California State University system.  His record label, Curb Records, which is one of the largest in the nation, signed many hit recording artists such as Tim McGraw, LeAnn Rimes and Sammy Davis, Jr.  Additionally, it scored more than 300 No. 1 records on various music charts. During a 40-year career as a songwriter, producer and record company owner, Curb has written more than 400 songs, produced 25 gold or platinum-selling records, and received countless music industry awards.  In addition to his entertainment career, Curb served as California’s lieutenant governor from 1975 to 1983 and acting governor from 1979 to 1980.  As owner of Curb Racing, he has competed within the motorsports industry for over 40 years, with winning teams on the NASCAR circuit, including victories at Daytona, as well as winning the Indianapolis 500.  He has earned stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Nashville Music City Walk of Fame.  A dedicated philanthropist, Curb also serves as chairman of the Mike Curb Family Foundation.
