Camarillo, Calif., Dec. 13, 2012 – CSU Channel Islands (CI) will hold its 2013 Commencement in two separate ceremonies on Saturday, May 18, in the South Quad.  The dual ceremonies allow the University to accommodate the growing number of CI graduates and their Commencement guests safely and comfortably.  Last year’s Commencement ceremony attracted more than 12,000 attendees.

“Many of our students are the first in their families to graduate from college, making their accomplishment a significant event to share with family and friends,” said Nancy Covarrubias Gill, Commencement Chair and Director of Communication & Marketing.  “With dual ceremonies, we can continue the important tradition of including extended families and our community in celebrating the students’ academic achievements.”

The morning ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. and will include the following academic programs (Bachelor’s, Master’s and Teaching Credentials):  Anthropology, Art, Chicana/o Studies, Credentials (teaching), Early Childhood Studies, Education, English, History, Liberal Studies, Performing Arts, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology.

The afternoon ceremony will begin at 3 p.m. and will include the following academic programs (Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees): Applied Physics, Biology, Business, Biotechnology & Bioinformatics, Biotechnology/MBA (dual degree), Chemistry, Communication, Computer Science, Economics, Environmental Science & Resource Management, Information Technology, Mathematics, Nursing, and Spanish.

Eligible degree candidates will receive a booklet by mail in February with specific information on each ceremony, including student and guest arrival times, parking/transportation, photography, and other details and reminders.  CI Grad Fest, which offers a multitude of services and information for degree candidates, will be held March 5 and 6 at the University Town Center.  For more information, visit www.csuci.edu/commencement or contact 805-437-3100.
