Camarillo, Calif., Sept. 16, 2014 – The Art Program at CSU Channel Islands (CI) is pleased to announce the opening of “Back to School, The First Interdisciplinary CI Faculty Exhibition.” The show opens on Tuesday, Sept. 23 and will conclude on Oct. 19. A free public reception will take place on Thursday, Sept. 25, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

The exhibition includes almost 100 images that reflect the research of CI faculty during the summer of 2014. This exhibition clearly demonstrates the commitment of the faculty to the mission of the University, the dedication to their field of study and to their students and reveals the inherent deep bond among the CI community. The exhibition is dedicated to CI Professor of Sociology Daniel Lee who recently passed away.

This exhibition discloses the preoccupation of CI faculty with research as a means not only to augment disciplinary knowledge but also, and more importantly, to enhance the educational experience of the CI students. “Back to School,” which includes works by over 90 CI lecturers, adjunct, tenured, and tenure-track faculty from all CI programs, was conceived and curated by CI Professor of Art History Irina D. Costache.

The inspiring works and the astonishingly diverse scholarly interests displayed in this innovative exhibition will mesmerize the viewers. The images vacillate between subtle intricacies and bold calligraphies. Historical connections, natural environments, urban life, marketing processes, educational opportunities, travel contemplations, global references, only some of the themes in this exhibition, forcefully acknowledge the profound, thoughtful and engaging studies of CI faculty.
