Jennifer Miller

Camarillo, Calif., Nov. 19, 2014 – Jennifer Miller, Director of Student Affairs Assessment, Research and Staff Development at CSU Channel Islands (CI) has earned the 2014 Region VI Distinguished Service to the Profession Award from NASPA (National Association of Student Personnel Administrators). Miller accepted the award at NASPA’s 2014 Western Regional Conference in Anaheim.

Miller, a 13-year student affairs professional, was honored for outstanding contributions to the profession, including a record of innovations and exemplary service as a mentor for students and new professionals. NASPA, the nation’s leading association for student affairs professionals with more than 13,000 members, holds the awards annually to recognize top leaders in the field.

“I am honored to be recognized for the work that I do in a field that I love,” Miller said. “I feel very lucky to go to work every day to serve students as they learn, develop and grow. I am also grateful for my mentors and colleagues whom I have had the privilege to work with and learn from throughout my career.”

Miller joined CI in 2013 after launching and directing the first student wellness center at UC Riverside. Over the past two years, she’s forged partnerships at CI to develop high-impact student programs, including the Dolphins Quest Program, which aims to enhance retention rates of underrepresented students. She also co-authored a Western Association of Schools & Colleges (WASC) report on the “Meaning of the Degree,” co-chaired the 2014 CSU Systemwide Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs Educational Conference, and collaborated with the CSU Chancellor’s Office to develop a systemwide assessment training and tool sharing site (SharePoint), among other noteworthy accomplishments.

An active member and mentor in NASPA, Miller has served as a National Undergraduate Fellows Program (NUFP) board member, campus mentor, Assessment Strategic Planning Committee Chair, and was recently selected as the 2015 NASPA Undergraduate Conference Chair.

She holds a Ph.D. in Education from Claremont Graduate University, a Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Oberlin College.

“Dr. Miller is truly deserving of this recognition,” said Wm. Gregory Sawyer, Vice President for Student Affairs. “She is the consummate Student Affairs professional who has dedicated years to serving students, mentoring colleagues and contributing intellectually to the field of higher education. CI is extremely appreciative of her leadership, dedication and passion for serving students and advancing the profession of Student Affairs.”
