2014 Dodger Day

Camarillo, Calif., August 10, 2015 – Everyone is invited to the CSU Channel Islands (CI) 12th Annual Dodger Day, set for Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015.

Tickets are selling fast for the event, which is expected to draw about 1,000 CI students, faculty, staff, alumni and members of the community to watch the Los Angeles Dodgers versus the San Diego Padres.

The game will start at 12:10 p.m. with Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean throwing out the ceremonial first pitch.  “I’m hoping to get my fastball up to 85 miles per hour,” Sheriff Dean joked.

The CI Dodger Day tradition began informally 12 years ago, then picked up momentum.

“It was just a group of about 30 staff, students and alumni,” said CI’s Director of Development, Alumni Relations, Tania Garcia. “Somebody on campus had a group of tickets, and they had such a good time, it became a yearly tradition.”

President Richard R. Rush turned it into an even bigger event four years ago when he invited the entire campus and community, and then threw out the ceremonial first pitch.

The event grew from about 100 people to 500, 800, and finally, 1,000.

There will be an all-you-can-eat pavilion with ballpark fare including hot dogs, pretzels, sodas and lots of other choices. The CI crowd will be acknowledged by the Dodgers, get a few moments of fame on the Jumbotron, and, if his schedule allows, CI’s mascot, Ekho the Dolphin, could make a cameo appearance on the field.

“It’s all about getting everyone together and having a day to celebrate CI students, faculty, staff and our wonderful local community” Garcia said. “It’s about going down, watching some baseball and showing some true CI pride.”

Tickets cost:

Reserve MVP: $40

All-you-can-eat: $43

Infield Loge Box: $65

Ticket price includes free bus transportation from CSU Channel Islands. The bus will leave the campus at 9:30 a.m.  To learn more about CI’s Alumni & Friends Association, click on: www.csuci.edu/alumni.
