Dr. Sohn

Camarillo, Calif., March 28, 2016 — Deciding where to invest when the financial seas are choppy can be tricky, so Director of the Institute for Global Economic Research (IGER) Sung Won Sohn, Ph.D. and Chief Investment Officer of Los Angeles City Employee Retirement Services (LACERS), Rodney June, will offer some tips.

“Investing in Uncertain Times” will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. on April 15 in Malibu Hall, Room 100, on the CSU Channel Islands (CI) campus.

Sohn, a Professor of Economics at CI’s Martin V. Smith School of Business & Economics, says guests will come away with some strategies to help protect investments from an uncertain future.

“There are concerns about a global economic slowdown,” Sohn said. “Whether a slowdown or recession, there is deeper concern that policymakers will have very few options for dealing with it.”

June, who manages $14 billion through LACERS, will also offer advice on how professionals and laypeople can protect their financial nest eggs.

When asked about whether a recession is imminent, Sohn said he doesn’t see that happening, but the probability keeps growing, which has an impact on financial markets.

The speakers will weigh several defensive investment strategies such as fixed income versus the riskier but potentially higher reward equities; and the active versus passive “buy-and-hold” income strategies, among others.

Lunch will be served at this free event, but attendees are asked to RSVP at: go.csuci.edu/IGER-luncheon.

Limited parking is available on campus with the purchase of a $6 daily permit; follow signs to the parking permit dispensers.
