Dr. BeckCamarillo, Calif., March 29, 2017—CSU Channel Islands (CSUCI) President Erika D. Beck will be a special honoree and keynote speaker at the Pacific Coast Business Times Top 50 Women in Business Awards.

President Beck is among 50 area business and community leaders who will be honored at the ceremony, which will begin at 5:30 p.m. on April 13 at the Deckers Outdoor Rotunda at 6601 Hollister Ave. in Goleta.

Of the 50 recipients, some honorees will be singled out for “Editor’s Choice” awards in several categories.

During her keynote address, President Beck plans to discuss how CSUCI prepares students for careers important to the area, such as nursing, mechatronics (engineering) and teaching. At the same time, the University strives to prepare students for 21st Century careers that may not even exist yet.

This is the latest in a series of public presentations given by President Beck, who succeeded President Richard R. Rush last summer. Beck came to CSUCI from Nevada State University in Henderson, where she served as Executive Vice President.

“It’s an honor to receive this recognition on behalf of CSU Channel Islands,” Beck said. “It’s never been a more exciting time to be in higher education and to play an integral role in shaping a public university that is reimagining higher education for the 21st century and providing high quality educational programs that prepare our students to join the innovation economy of our region and our state.”

As a member of the CSUCI Foundation Board, Pacific Coast Business Times Chairman and Editor Henry Dubroff has become acquainted with President Beck and says he likes her style.

“Dr. Beck has impressed all of us with her enthusiasm, her ability to adapt quickly to a new situation and her sense of humor,” Dubroff said. “She's been a terrific new addition to the campus and the tri-county region.”
