Purpose

As one of the three programmatic elements of New Student, Orientation and Transition Programs (NSOTP), Island View Orientation (IVO) prepares first-time college students and transfer students for a successful transition to university life at California State University Channel Islands. 

Program Objectives

  • To facilitate a successful academic transition into CSUCI by providing students with academic resources (DSA 1, 2, 3)
  • To assist with a successful social transition into CSUCI by providing students with resources for personal and co-curricular development  (DSA 1, 2, 3)
  • To develop school spirit by welcoming students to the campus community (DSA 2)

Interesting Facts

  • 648 students attended orientation in the summer of 2007
  • 458 guests attended orientation in the summer of 2007
  • 37 on- and off-campus programs and services collaborate with NSOTP to implement orientation
  • 71 individuals collaborate with NSOTP to implement orientation
  • 82.6% of student respondents were able to identify the CSUCI mission after attending orientation
  • 16.6% was the reported increase in students’ confidence that they will attend CSUCI in the fall as a result of attending orientation
  • 92% of student respondents’ expectations were met or exceeded at orientation
  • 80.4% of student respondents’ expectations were exceeded at orientation
