Reservation and Fee Questions
How do I reserve a space in orientation?
You will receive access to the online orientation reservation form through your Dolphin VIP page when your Intent to Enroll has been received by the Admissions office.I have registered for orientation but have decided not to attend; can I receive a refund?
Unfortunately all orientation fees are completely non-refundable.
I can only attend a specific orientation session. How do I specify this on the reservation form?
At the beginning of the online reservation form you will need to select your preferred date. The reservation system will indicate when dates are full. Remember, dates are filled on a first-come, first-served basis so it is possible that you will not receive your first choice. However, we will do our best to accommodate any special needs considering our space limitations. Please contact New Student, Orientation and Transition Programs with your concerns at orientation@csuci.edu or (805) 437-3160 after you have registered for orientation.What is the deadline for registering for orientation?
All reservations for freshman Island View Orientation must be made by May 20, 2011.What happens if I do not register for orientation by the deadline?
Students who do not sign up and pay for orientation by May 20, 2011, will be wait-listed by the Admissions office. Students on the wait list will be allowed to register for orientation and enroll at the University on a space available basis.Who do I contact to find out about my Dolphin VIP page, access to the reservation system or Statement of Intent?

If you pay online with a credit card you will be able to secure a space immediately on the online reservation form. Individuals who pay by check (see below) will receive an email confirmation containing the date for which they have been registered after we have received and processed the reservation form and payment. It may take up to two weeks to receive this email confirmation.May I pay with a credit card?
Yes, you may pay with a credit card in the payment section of the online reservation form. This will secure your space immediately!May I pay with a check?
We highly recommend paying with a credit card; a check payment will cause your orientation registration to be delayed. Individuals that wish to secure a space in Island View Orientation immediately should complete the online reservation form and pay with a credit card.If you are unable to pay with a credit card, please send an email to orientation@csuci.edu and we will provide you with the alternate reservation process. A check payment will delay your reservation; reservations are not complete until your payment has been processed. Payments must be received by May 20, 2011 to secure your space.
Do my guests have to register for orientation and pay the fee?
Any guest who is attending orientation with students must pay the required guest fee ($90 for freshman guests). Guests who wish to stay overnight in on-campus student housing must also pay an additional fee of $35.I have a guest who wishes to attend only part of the two-day orientation. Can this person pay a pro-rated fee?
We do not offer pro-rated fees for guests. Any guests who wish to attend all or part of orientation must register and pay the guest orientation fee.Do my guests have to stay in on-campus housing?
Guests attending freshman orientation are invited, but not required, to stay in our on-campus student housing. Guests staying in on-campus student housing will pay an additional fee of $35 per person for a total of $125. All guests electing to stay in on-campus student housing are required to attend Island View Orientation. On-campus housing space for guests is available on a first-come, first-served basis.I live locally; do I have to stay on campus?
All freshman are required to stay on campus for orientation so that we may provide you with a holistic introduction to the campus community. Staying on campus provides you with an excellent opportunity to engage with your peers and become familiar with our community.
General Orientation Questions
Will I have the opportunity to pay my fees while at IVO?
While you are on campus for orientation, you may want to pay for or purchase the following items: tuition fees, housing fees, parking permit or student ID card. The acceptable forms of payment in the office are cash, check or money order. All credit card transactions are done online. CI only accepts MasterCard, AMEX, Discover and Diner's Club. VISA is NOT accepted. Please make sure that you come with the appropriate form(s) of payment.
What do I need to bring to orientation? Is there anything I need to do before I attend orientation?
All incoming freshmen are required to complete Pre-Orientation Homework prior to attending Island View Orientation. The Pre-Orientation Homework will contain a series of steps that the student must complete including reviewing the list of items to bring to orientation. Pre-orientation instructions will be emailed by early June to students who have registered for orientation.A list of items that you need to bring to orientation is also provided below for your quick reference:
- Completed mandatory forms/materials provided in the Pre-Orientation Homework
- Pajamas
- Blankets and sheets or a sleeping bag
- Pillow
- Towel
- Comfortable clothing for warm and cool temperatures. While the summer months can get very warm, the evening hours are often cool and many activities are outdoors.
- Shoes for walking and activities. You’ll be traversing the beautiful CI campus and will want to be comfortable.
- Bathing suit for spending some time at the pool in Anacapa Village
- Toiletries including such items as a toothbrush, soap, shampoo, deodorant, hand soap, etc.
- An alarm clock
- Snacks or any other food you may want in addition to your provided meals. If you think you will want other items, feel free to bring them along.
- Sunscreen and bug spray. You will spend time outdoors during the day and evening hours.
- Backpack or book bag if you prefer to use your own. An orientation spirit bag full of fun goodies will be provided to you.
- Money to purchase books, supplies and your new CI apparel, if you would like to do so on this visit to campus.
- Energy! The two-day orientation is packed with fun and exciting activities that give you opportunities to learn about your new University home and meet many new friends. Come ready to enjoy!
Is orientation required?
Orientation is required for all incoming freshmen. Freshman students who do not attend orientation will not be permitted to attend the University.May I buy my parking permit, ID card, and books and pay tuition fees at orientation?
Yes.Will I register for classes at Island View Orientation?
Freshmen will receive academic advising and register for classes during orientation.Can I register for classes before orientation?
Unfortunately, it is not possible for any freshman students to register before attending orientation.Do guests who are being accommodated in on-campus student housing stay with their student?
No, guests stay in a separate location.Are students allowed to leave campus during orientation?
Students will be busy on campus during the entire two days of orientation and are not permitted to leave campus.Does financial aid cover the orientation fees?
Orientation fees are not paid for by financial aid. You will need to pay for IVO with a credit card to secure your attendance. Students that have completed the FAFSA by the March 2 deadline and show to have significant need may receive enough funding to cover IVO fees; however, in order to secure your IVO space, you will need to pay with a credit card. What time is check-in?
While the orientation schedule is currently being finalized, check-in for freshman orientation typically takes place between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. in Santa Cruz Village.What time will freshman orientation end on day two?
While the orientation schedule is currently being finalized, we anticipate orientation will end at approximately 5:00 p.m. on day two after students have registered for classes.Where is check-in?
Students should check-in at Santa Cruz Village for freshman orientation. Directional signage will be provided on campus for your guidance.Where do I park and do I need a permit?
