Orientation Staff 2007 Biographies

Eva Lynn Klein

Eva Klein Orientation Leader

Age: 18

Hometown: Quartz Hill, California

Major: Communication with an emphasis in photo journalism

Favorite quote: "There will never be a second, a minute, an hour, a day, a week, a month, or a year like this so make the most of it while you still can.”

About me: I am a girl who loves to meet new people. I love to be with my friends and to experience the unknown. I am very adventurous and will try anything once! My family means the world to me. I love my sheltie dogs Chloie and Sheep. The beach is my favorite place ever! My main goal in life is to live, love and travel. I can not wait for what the future has in store for me, or better yet what I have in store for the future.

Advice to incoming students: My main advice to new students is to keep your focus on what’s important. Remember what you are here for and keep in mind what these years are going to mean to you later in life. These are years of triumph and tribulation, but remember that everything you experience will make you grow as a person. Life is indeed a crazy journey.

Krista Lorene Wilbur

Krista Wilbur Orientation Leader

Age: 24

Hometown: Ventura, California

Major: English with an emphasis in creative writing

Favorite quote: “Where excellence is possible, mediocrity is a sin.”

About me: Hey guys, I’m almost done with CSUCI; just one more year left and it’s off to grad school! My plan in life is to get an MA in English or an MFA in Creative Writing to write young adult novels. I’ll be the next Judy Blume one day and you can all say I knew her when! Hopefully, I’ll be able to teach as a professor someday. It seems like I’ve been to every school in California (three universities and a community college!), but I knew as soon as I walked on to the CSUCI campus in spring 2006 that this was for me. I’m a dolphin, through and through. I hope to get you as excited about our school as I feel. Feel free to stop me on campus and say, “Hi,” or email with any questions you might have. I love meeting new people (and I’m great with names, so I’ll probably remember you after our first meeting!) so we’ll be one big happy family of dolphins! I believe that we all have something great to contribute to the world and I’m excited to see what you guys will add to our campus community.

Advice to incoming students: First, talk to your professors! They’re not mind readers, so if you’re having problems in class or you’re feeling overwhelmed by all the changes that are going on, especially your first year of college, they will never know if you don’t speak up. Also, if you talk to them you might find out all kinds of cool stuff, like different events and opportunities on campus. One of the professors in the English department is mentoring me through the novel-writing process, a journey I might never have taken if I hadn’t talked to her about what I wanted to write. Also it’s totally cliché, but get involved even if it’s just in one activity. Being involved makes you feel like you are a part of this campus and that in turn makes you want to leave less. Trust me. I’m the queen of college-induced homesickness!

About me:  I would like to start off by saying, “Hi” and how excited I am to see everyone this summer. I love being outside, whether it is hiking or just walking around campus. I spend a lot of my free time doing Native American storytelling around local elementary schools. Like I said earlier, I look forward to seeing everyone this summer and next semester.

Major: Psychology

Favorite quote: “You’re going sane in a crazy world.” – The Tick

About Me: Hey guys my name is Nick. The things I like to do are ride the bike at the gym, lift weights, practice martial arts on my own, read, make music, ponder the endless universe, probe the human mind, and lure others into a maze of a conversation. Good stuff.

Advice to students: My quote says it all. Try not to go sane in this crazy world. Life might get boring too fast and just like eating the same thing for dinner every night, wouldn’t you get tired of the same existence?

Jami Jones

Age: 22

Hometown: Folsom, California

Favorite quote: “Life is no brief candle to me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got a hold of for the moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.”- George Bernard Shaw

About me: I am a CSUCI Psych graduate. Attending CSUCI was a blast! That’s why I am back again! I am currently looking into graduate programs but this summer I am looking forward to meeting all the new incoming students during Orientation. GO ORANGE TEAM! Most of my life I grew up in Sacramento, California and then moved to the OC with the parents. After high school and junior college I started looking for a place to finish my BA Degree. CSUCI was my number one choice! What better place to attend for both my education and co-curricular involvement as a student. There are many opportunities here at CSUCI and I would encourage you to check them out. Don’t let your college years pass you up!

Advice to incoming students: Get involved on campus; it will make your educational experience 14 times better!

Hometown: Camarillo, California

Major: Psychology, Political Science minor

Favorite quote: “To understand the heart and mind of a person, look not at what he has achieved, but at what he aspires to do.” – Kahlil Gibran: Lebanese artist & poet in US (1883-1931)

About me: Welcome to CSUCI! I am so glad you have chosen to be a dolphin! The last four years at CSUCI have been such an amazing experience. As a student I made sure to get involved with Student Government as a Senator, followed by becoming the 2005-2006 Student Body President, Chair of Associated Students Inc. and a member of Gamma Beta Phi Honors Society. I also had the amazing experience of advocating the student perspective statewide through the California State Student Association board of directors and as the Chair of the 2006 California Higher Education Student Summit in Sacramento. Last fall I was a congressional intern in Washington D.C. through the Leon and Sylvia Panetta Institute for Public Policy. Channel Islands opened the door to so many opportunities for me, as it will for you. Congratulations on your acceptance into CSUCI! Can’t wait to meet you in July!

Advice to incoming students: Take advantage of every opportunity CSUCI offers.
