The Getty Research Institute's Getty Scholar and Visiting Scholar Grants are designed to provide a unique research experience. Recipients are in residence at the Getty Research Institute, where they pursue their own projects free from academic obligations, make use of Getty collections, join their colleagues in a weekly meeting devoted to the 2009-10 theme, "The "Display of Art," and participate in the intellectual life of the Getty
The Getty Research Institute seeks applications from established researchers as well as those at the pre- and postdoctoral levels who are interested in questions bearing on the display of art and wish to be in residence at the Getty Research Institute or Getty Villa during the 2009-10 academic year. "The Display of Art" will remain the theme for the Getty Research Institute in 2010-2011; postdoctoral applicants are welcome to apply for both years. A complete description of the 2010 theme is available at the Getty Web site. Guidelines and application forms for 2010 grants will be available on the site in July 2009.

The Warren Center invites applications from scholars in all disciplines whose lively presence will help to focus the sponsor's work and stimulate discussions. The 2010-2011 topic is "Representation and Social Change". The Warren Center will host a year-long interdisciplinary faculty seminar to explore the complex and multidirectional relationship between representation and social change. The seminar will include participants who study a broad range of representation, including verbal, visual, and other material means. These categories could stretch from literature to music to images, both moving and still (including technological representations such as magnetic resonance imaging, sonograms, etc., as well as digital media), and also to material culture (sculpture, pottery, grave goods, and the like). "Social change" is likewise understood broadly. It may manifest in activism, policy, or politics, but it also operates at the level of identity, lifestyle, and culture.

The Elsevier Foundation, a philanthropic organization sponsored by Elsevier, a global publisher of scientific, technical, and medical information, is seeking new grant proposals for its 2009 Innovative Libraries in Developing Countries and New Scholars programs. The two programs will provide one, two, and three-year grants of up to $50,000 a year.
The Innovative Libraries in Developing Countries program supports the efforts of libraries in developing countries working to make scientific, technical, and medical information available to those who need it. Past projects have included expanding library information resources through digitization and knowledge preservation, training and education programs for librarians and researchers, and developed/developing world partnerships to provide long-term technical assistance and training.
The New Scholars program supports academic and research communities working to help scholars in the early stages of their science, health, and technology careers balance work and family responsibilities. Previous grants have promoted institutional research, advocacy, and policy development to retain, recruit, and develop women in science, and have enabled researchers to attend conferences critical to their careers by assisting with childcare, mentorship, and networking.
