COMMUNITY SERVICE OFFICER PROGRAM

Introduction
The California State University Channel Islands Community Service Officer Program employs University students to assist the Public Safety Department with various community related tasks. Employment is open to all CSUCI students who wish to develop their personal and professional skills. Mission
The mission of the Community Service Officer Program is to facilitate the academic process by providing a safe and secure environment in which to pursue academic excellence. Under direct supervision, students patrol all campus property performing escorts, security, parking enforcement, and various related administrative functions, thereby assisting the campus community, the general public and the Department of Public Safety.  Our commitment to our Community Service Officer (CSO) program is based on a philosophy that we are:

  • Enhancing Public Safety services to the campus community
  • Providing employment and practical experience to our students.
  • Providing students with a service-based learning experience in public safety and community service.

CAMPUS SAFETY ESCORT PROGRAM

The safety escort program is designed to provide a safe and reliable means of transportation for students, faculty, and staff here at CSUCI, from one location to another.  The program offers transportation from any on-campus location to another including: buildings, residence halls or vehicles.  We are not authorized to escort patrons to off campus locations including east campus and University Glen. The hours of operation are:
Monday –Thursday: 5:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. 
Friday: ROVER ONLY 5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

Application Procedures
CSO applications may be obtained at the Student Life Career Center, located in Bell Tower East (room 1865).  Completed applications may be faxed to (805) 437-8431 or delivered via mail or in person at:

Application Requirements

  • Must be a full- or part-time student at CSUCI with a GPA of 2.0 or above.
  • Must possess a valid California driver’s license
  • Must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Background check is required.
