Prohibited Items on Campus
It is a crime – in fact it’s a felony crime – to possess most weapons on campus. Penal Code 626.10 clearly prohibits possession of the following weapons anywhere on campus – to include inside your vehicle or dorm room. Believe me possessing any of these weapons will be viewed as a “big deal” and the consequences for doing so will be a “big deal” as well.
Don’t possess:
- Any rifle, shotgun, or handgun;
- Any knife that has a blade longer than 2.5 inches;
- A folding knife, of any blade length, where the blade locks into place;
- Tasers or stun guns;
- BB, air-soft, paintball, or any other similar gun that uses air pressure, carbon dioxide pressure, or spring action to expel a projectile.
- IT IS ALSO A FELONY CRIME TO POSSESS ANY TEAR GAS (MACE) PRODUCT INSIDE A STATE BUILDING (PC 171B), BUT IT IS NOT A CRIME TO PERSONALLY POSSESS IT OR KEEP IT IN YOUR VEHICLE. STATE LAW ALLOWS YOU TO PURCHASE, POSSESS, AND USE TEAR GAS IN THE FORM OF AN AEROSOL SPRAY WITH A NET WEIGHT OF 2.5 OUNCES OR LESS, SOLELY FOR SELF DEFENSE (PC 12403.7). WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU STORE SUCH A PRODUCT EXCLUSIVELY IN YOUR VEHICLE SO YOU DON’T FORGET TO TAKE IT OUT OF YOUR BACKPACK WHEN ENTERING A CLASSROOM BUILDING.
