Participants will select one specialized instructional activity for the week: Sailing, Kayaking, or Windsurfing. They will receive instruction in this activity each day from 9:00AM to 3:30PM Each day will be filled with hands-on instruction, water and land-based activities, water safety, and environmental education, which includes hands-on experience with marine life at the Oxnard College Marine Education Center. Campers will explore issues ranging from undersea life to physical oceanography where they will discover the forces that create waves, participate in creative artwork that incorporates the marine life, come face-to-face with some of the Channel Islands underwater residents inside a touch tank and learn how to protect our fragile marine habitat. Campers will also visit the Channel Islands Maritime Museum, students will explore maritime history and culture, Join us for this unique opportunity to learn about the ocean environment.
Sailing is an exhilarating sport that is fun and easy to learn. With our diverse fleet of dinghies and some of the best instructors in the business, you will be well on your way to sailing across the harbor effortlessly. The sailing program is designed for youth who have little to no sailing experience, The course offers instruction in basic sailing theory and boat handling. Each day is composed of on-land sessions followed by on-the water practice sessions in Catalina 16.5 and Laser Picos. The second week of instruction will explore the basics in racing and working together in different types of sailboats. These safe and stable sailboats are the perfect platform to have your child sailing confidently with one or two other participants.US Sailing Certification Available
Sailing participants can work towards receiving their US Sailing Small Boat Certification while at camp. Participants must notify their instructor two weeks prior to camp for an Official Logbook of Sailing.* The Small Boat Certification is the first step in the US Sailing Certification process and can be upgraded as participants add to their sailing credentials by any US Sailing certified instructor across the United States. *Logbook requires an additional $2.00 fee.
What better way to get on the water and experience the wonderful sights of the Channel Islands Harbor than by joining our kayaking program? This introductory program takes place at the harbor and focuses on the fundamentals of kayaking. The kayaks are safe, light, extremely comfortable and will allow each camper to relax and have a great time. We will teach basic fundamentals including; boat handling, body positioning, strokes, recoveries, water safety and equipment care. Participants will tour the Channel Islands Harbor and surrounding coasts (as weather permits), allowing campers to see the various types of marine life in this beautiful aquatic environment.

Family Day at the Docks
Guests are invited to attend Family Day at the Docks held on each Friday from 12:00PM - 2:30PM The Family Day at the Docks allows guests to join in their camper's experience by either sailing or kayaking with their camper. Parents interested in the Family Day at the Docks must give the front desk a number of participants Friday morning. Caution parents: please come prepared to get wet and have a great time!
Our skilled and friendly staff have been carefully selected for their waterfront background, education and training experience. Our camp staff is committed to a “Safety First” approach to having fun and we regularly hold safety training's and reviews. Each staff member is certified in CPR, First Aid, and lifeguarding through the American Red Cross, California Department of Boating, and Waterways safe-boat handling. Expect only the best with our highly qualified and dynamic staff. The American Red Cross prepares lifeguards through classroom learning and hands-on practice. Skills learned include:
Surveillance skills to help lifeguards recognize and prevent injuries.
- Rescue skills for in the water and on land.
- First aid and professional rescuer training.
- CPR, to help lifeguards prepare for an emergency.
