The Student Health and Counseling Center (SHCC) is an outpatient clinic staffed by a physician and two nurse practitioners. We are available to diagnose and treat acute illness and injuries, and provide physical exams for students enrolled in the University. If a problem requires medical care beyond the scope of the center's available facilities, a referral is made to outside professional care.
Professional services at the Student Health and Counseling Center are provided at no charge to enrolled students. Fees will be charged for some immunizations, outside lab services and x-rays, if needed. Most insurance plans will cover prescriptions, lab tests and x-rays ordered by our medical providers. We recommend you contact your insurance plan to determine covered benefits prior to your visit.
The Family PACT program is available for family planning services. If you qualify, Family PACT will cover the cost of Pap smears, STD testing and birth control methods for both men and women.
Appointments are required for physicals (including annual exams for women) and are recommended for follow-up visits and non-urgent needs. Every attempt is made to provide same-day service to students with acute illnesses or urgent concerns. Walk-in visits are accommodated as the schedule allows. Call 805-437-8828 to schedule an appointment.
The Student Health and Counseling Center does not provide health insurance. Students are strongly encouraged to have an insurance policy that will cover services beyond the scope of the SHCC.
Information on low cost insurance policies designed especially for students is available at the SHCC and at www.csuhealthlink.com.
