Immunizations and Screening

Immunizations against the diseases listed below are available at the Student Health and Counseling Center (SHCC).  Please bring your immunization record to the SHCC and we will tell you which vaccines and/or boosters you may need.  Students 18 years of age and younger may qualify for free vaccines through the federally funded Vaccines for Children (VFC) program.  Please contact us for a list of charges and for information about the VFC program.

Required Immunizations

Measles and Rubella:

All new and readmitted students born after January 1, 1957 must provide proof of immunization against measles and rubella (usually given with the mumps vaccine in a combination shot called "MMR") prior to their first enrollment at any CSU campus. Although only a single MMR is required, two doses are recommended.  Students enrolled in a California public school for the seventh grade or higher on or after July 1, 1999 will have satisfied this requirement.

Hepatitis B:

All first-time enrollees who are 18 years of age or younger must provide proof of immunization against Hepatitis B before enrolling. A complete Hepatitis B vaccination series consists of three doses given over a four to six month period. Students enrolled in a California public school for the seventh grade or higher on or after July 1, 1999 will have satisfied this requirement.

Recommended Immunizations

Meningococcal vaccine:

All incoming freshman who will reside in on-campus housing are required to be informed about Meningococcal disease and the availability of a vaccine to prevent infection. In addition, each student must sign the informational form and indicate whether or not they have chosen to be vaccinated. This form is available at the Student Health and Counseling Center or it can be downloaded using the link provided below:

Other Immunizations

Other immunizations available at the Student Health and Counseling Center include vaccines against:

  • Hepatitis A
  • Tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis (Tdap)
  • Human Papilloma Virus (HPV)

Although CSU does not require these, they are recommended for certain populations. Please contact the SHCC for more information.

Screening

TB Testing

TB testing is available at no charge for students. You must be able to return to the Student Health and Counseling Center in 48-72 hours to have the test read by the provider and receive documentation or your test result.

STD Screening

The Student Health and Counseling Center offers full screening services for Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs).  Most insurance plans will cover the cost of the laboratory testing or you can apply for the Family PACT program.
