October is breast cancer awareness month!

To help do our part in observing the nationwide Breast Cancer Awareness month initiative, each October (since 2009), the Ventura College women’s soccer program teams up with CSU Channel Islands, Concordia University in Irvine, local high schools and soccer clubs to help raise money for the Ventura Community Memorial Healthcare Foundation (VCMHF), a 501c3 organization. Currently, funds raised are provided to women without insurance to get a mammogram. According to breastcancer.org, about 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will develop an invasive breast cancer over the course of their lifetime. This significantly impacts our community too, in fact, in 2011, it was estimated that there were over 600 reported cases of breast cancer and 80 deaths associated with breast cancer in Ventura County (http://www.ccrcal.org).

Score for the Cure is designed to help women identify breast cancer early and wants to help to make an impact in the lives of survivors! Your participation will bring us closer to our goal of $10,000 (last year we raised $8,500) and raise awareness about breast cancer.

There are two ways you can support the Score for the Cure Campaign - order mechandise or take part in the CI Soccerfest Tournament.
