California State University Channel Islands (CI) and the Student Research Steering Council (SRSC) actively supports and promotes student engagement in research, scholarly, and creative activities (RSCA) as part of the campus mission to place students at the center of our endeavors. Student Research is a key component of the Academic Affairs Strategic Plan and is a High Impact Teaching Practice as defined by the Chancellor's Office.
Student Research and Scholarly & Creative Activities at CI describes a continuum of faculty-mentored student activity designed to produce or to prepare a student to produce original work. Activities will:
- Be initiated by faculty or by students.
- Meet a discipline-appropriate standard of acceptability or make an original contribution to the integrative understanding of a significant local, global, multicultural or international question or problem.
- Result in dissemination in a venue appropriate for the type of work conducted.
