Section 6. Counters

6.1. How do I put a counter in my Web pages?

Counters are cgi-scripts which run on the server to keep count of the number of hits on a Web page.

As counter-generated numbers can often be deceiving, Web Services recommends using one of the free web-based tracking services available on the web. One popular service is Google Analytics. Services like these provide not only site visit statistics, but geographic and browser statistics as well. Of course, users are welcome to use any of the free web counter services available through many other web sites.
