University Planning and Coordinating Council (UPACC)

Strategic Planning

Three working groups have been created to help in the pre-planning process of revisiting the Strategic Plan for CSU Channel Islands.  These working groups will collect information and data that will be posted to the Strategic Planning website.  The groups will also synthesize the information for presentation to the campus community and the community at large during the town hall and focus group meetings that are planned for this fall.

Internal

The Internal Group’s charge is to gather information about the current campus environment and existing planning documents for the future.  These include: the Academic Master Plan, the Physical Master Plan, the IT Strategic Plan, and enrollment targets, as well as information about the organizational structure of the University, its Centers, and new up-coming campus units such as Athletics.  They will also identify areas where data is needed, but unavailable.  Their analysis will utilize a Strengths and Weaknesses framework.

External

The External Group’s charge is to gather information about the macro environment in which the University operates including: political factors on the federal, state, and local levels; economic factors such as educational competition, labor force needs and the global climate; social factors such as population demographics, environmental sustainability, and health; Higher Education factors that relate to the educational pipeline, accreditation and the CSU system; and technological factors, particularly as they affect the delivery of higher education. Their analysis will utilize an Opportunities and Threats framework.

Community

The Community Group’s charge is to identify the campus’ current relationships in the region and the reciprocal ways the community and campus support one another.  This includes: current levels of support from grants, foundations, and alumni; current community participation in University committees, advisory groups, President’s Circle and the Foundation; the extent of the University’s marketing efforts and its participation in the activities of the region.  This group will also plan the community focus group meetings where key members of the public will be invited to share their vision for CSU Channel Island’s future direction.
