Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration

Multicultural Programs hosted 66 community, students, faculty and staff to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at an event featuring Mr. Steven Loewenstein performing the civil rights leader’s most beloved speeches. Educator/performer Mr. Loewenstein presented his one-man show, “Montgomery to Memphis,” with the assistance of Dr. Wm. Gregory Sawyer.  Mr. Lowenstein and Dr. Sawyer took the audience through the life and times of Dr. King by narrating and dramatically interpreting excerpts of five powerful speeches over a photo slideshow and music.  The event began with gossip music presented by Bethel AME Choir from Oxnard. The evening also featured performances by Mr. Jevon Wilkes, Ms. Franchesca Brown, and Ms. Alysha Griggs, members of CI’s Usawa Student Union.
