The Dean of Arts & Sciences provides leadership for the faculty in the Arts & Sciences in support of excellence in teaching, research, creative activities, and service; oversees the development of new academic programs, curricula, program reviews and assessment of learning outcomes; makes faculty appointments, retention, tenure and promotion recommendations to the Provost; oversees student academic progress; promotes and facilitates the development of interdisciplinary programs; oversees the budgets of the program areas; fosters professional development for the faculty and the staff; recommends the appointment of Chairs to the Provost; supervises the employment and retention of temporary faculty and support staff; represents the faculty and the University to the community at large, and involves the greater community in advisory capacities; oversees teaching assignments and implements workload policies; fosters open and effective communication among the faculty, staff, and students; meets regularly with program chairs and convenes faculty meetings as necessary.
