GRE Preparation Sessions

Are you planning on attending graduate school but nervous about having to take the GRE? Unsure of what you need to study to be prepared for the exam? This 6 session GRE test prep course will build your confidence by going over the exam logistics, talking through the different sections of the exam and the format of exam questions in each section, give you the opportunity to take practice exam questions, and provide additional tips for preparing and studying for the GRE. Much of the course will be spent on content and questions similar to those on the actual exam.

  • Program length: 6 sessions, 3 hours per session (18 classroom hours)
  • Fees: $100 per 6-session course (Subject to change. Textbooks not included).
  • Financial Assistance: Workshops do not qualify for Financial Aid. This program is currently subsidized to reduce fees.

Topics covered in these sessions

Arithmetic, Text Completion, Sentence Equivalence, and Vocabulary

This will include a review of number properties, math vocabulary, and an introduction to problem solving techniques. How to approach the text completion and sentence equivalence problems will be demonstrated and practiced. How to improve one’s vocabulary, short and long term, will be presented and discussed.

Algebra, Quantitative Comparison, and Reading Comprehension

This session will cover a review of algebra and how it can be both used and avoided. How to approach quantitative comparisons will be presented. Also, précis method will be introduced for reading comprehension.

Geometry and Analytical Writing

This will include a review of geometry formulae and concepts as they apply on the GRE. How to approach and structure the analytical essays will be discussed and practiced.

Data Analysis and Verbal Review

This will entail a review of probability, statistic, charts and graphs, and other relevant math topics for the data analysis questions. A review of all types of verbal GRE questions will be undertaken as time permits.

About the Instructor

Bill Ackerman has been helping students prepare for the GMAT, GRE, LSAT, CBEST, ACT, SAT and SAT Subject Tests since the Reagan administration. Beginning in 1986 with the Princeton Review Los Angeles office as an SAT verbal instructor, Bill went on to add SAT math and the graduate school entrance exams to his teaching repertoire and also served as the site director of the Palos Verdes and Encino teaching sites. In 1993, he joined the UCLA Extension faculty where he continues to teach preparation courses for the GMAT, GRE and LSAT, as well as serving as an online instructor for the Certificate in College Counseling program. In 2006, Bill received that same certificate from UCLA. Bill also owns and operates an educational consulting service called ACCESS, which he opened in 2002 to provide students with guidance in the college and graduate school application process. He has a master’s degree from UC Irvine and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana – Champaign.
