New Employee - Student Worker

Who is considered a New Student Worker Employee?

You are required to sign new employee paperwork in the Human Resources office:

  • If you are a student that has never held a campus student or summer youth aid position on campus or
  • If your previous student employment at this campus ended more than three years ago, or
  • If you previously/currently held/hold a University Glen/ Auxiliary Student Assistant position, and are now taking a campus student assistant position.

Preparing for Your First Day

Please call ahead at 805-437-8490 to make arrangements, prior to your start date.  This allows us to anticipate high volume hours.  Human Resources Hours: 8:30 am 4:30 pm - Monday through Friday

Upon your job offer acceptance, you should have received a welcome and congratulatory email from your department, giving you specific information about your new position, Human Resources (HR) information and an overview of your first day and a link to the New Student Assistant Sign-in Packet webpage which provides links to documents you are required to complete.

Please review with your department PRIOR to coming to Human Resources the correct classification of the position you are being hired for, so that you may select the appropriate paperwork below:

Graduate Assistants, Teaching Associates and Summer Youth Aides please refer to the New Employee Check-in Process for Staff/Faculty page for the correct paperwork.

Federal law and CSU policies require that your Employment Eligibility Verification forms (INS Form I-9) be completed no later than close of business on your first day of work.

To facilitate the sign-in process, please complete the online fillable documents in advance of your first day and bring the printed copies with you to Human Resources, Lindero Hall, Room 2801. If you do not have access to a printer, check to see if you can print from the department that is hiring you, or come to HR and we will provide you with forms. Forms are also available at HR for those new employees who do not have access to a computer or would prefer to complete forms by hand.

You will also be required to demonstrate your identity and your eligibility to work in the United States in accordance with the Immigration and Reform Control Act. Acceptable documents that establish identity and employment authorization can be found on the I-9 Employment Eligibility Form in the New Employee Sign-In Packet. Please bring the required original documents with you on your first day.


What you will need to bring

  • Social Security Card. It is required that your name and Social Security Number are reported exactly as stated on your Social Security card to the Internal Revenue Service and California Franchise Tax Board. This satisfies California State payroll requirements. To help expedite this verification processes please bring your original, non-laminated Social Security Card to your in-person sign-on. If you do not have your original card please advise us at the time of sign-up. Prior to completing the in person sign-in, you can request a new card from the Social Security Administration. Go to your local office. They will issue you a general receipt when you order your card. Bring this with you to Human Resources. This receipt will allow us to have you start work. However, we will not be able to process your paperwork on to Payroll until you bring back your card, once it is received.

Documents that demonstrate your identity and your eligibility to work in the United States to meet legal requirements of the Immigration and Reform Control Act.   • Your new employee paperwork (found below) that you have filled out on-line, and printed at home, or in the department that hired you.
