Council Responsibilities
The Council’s primary responsibilities are to establish policies and practices regarding institutional data and provide strategic direction pertaining to institutional data use and management. Broadly, the Council will:
- Identify Data Stewards for protected data areas;
- Work collectively as a cross-functional team to develop, recommend, implement and monitor CI institutional data policies, architecture and operating procedures;
- Coordinate the development of and publish consistent, campus-wide institutional data definitions and coordinate definitional compliance with CSU, state, federal and other regulatory bodies;
- Advise on University-wide strategic plans for data management including sourcing, distribution, maintenance and quality of University institutional data assets;
- Advise on University-wide data management practices for decision-making including data warehousing, business intelligence, master data management and metadata management; and,
- Regular progress reports by project leads and to campus executive body.
Leadership Expectations
- Understand and promote the CI Mission;
- Be accountable for data governance - ensure that data is consistently defined and properly understood;
- Publish and adhere to a regular meeting calendar;
- Assure that stakeholder needs are identified and addressed;
- Provide open and transparent process; and,
- Form working groups to address needs that arise.
