About the Dolphin Email Migration Project

Back to Dolphin Email Migration Project

Between September 2003 and July 2007, the University hosted email using an off-site service provider (Everyone.net). In July 2007, the University migrated student email to Microsoft Exchange Server, hosted on campus, to improve email service and reduce the cost of email administration.

The University plans to migrate to a new email system for the start of the fall 2010 semester: Dolphin Email, powered by Google.

Why Gmail?

Other CSU campuses are already using Gmail and the Google Apps for Education suite, including Chico, East Bay, Fresno, Northridge. Google Apps is being used by thousands of schools, including more than 30 higher ed institutions.

Gmail, as part of Google Apps for Education, provides greater storage capacity, integration points with key campus systems, a secure and stable infrastructure, and a user interface that is familiar to many existing students. Learn More about Google Apps for Education.

Project Goals

  • To preserve campus email functionality for students
  • To extend the range of web-based computing services
