Dear Campus Community:

Last night Governor Newsom issued a statewide, mandatory Stay at Home order effective immediately. It’s important to note that colleges and universities are considered essential services in the context of this order.

More specifically, the California State Public Health Officer and Director of the California Department of Public Health are ordering all individuals living in the State of California to stay home or at their place of residence, except as needed to maintain continuity of operation of the federal critical infrastructure sectors, critical government services, schools, and construction, including housing construction.

Understandably, the stay at home order has left many with questions regarding the operations of the University. The purpose of this email is to provide some clarity.

Telecommuting and virtual instruction will continue and many of you are already set-up and working remotely and some of you are in the transition stages of getting the access and set-up that you require.

While much of CSUCI has moved to a virtual university in this past week, there is still a need to continue limited operations on the physical campus for those tasks that cannot otherwise be done remotely. This is needed to ensure the safety and security of the remaining students living in residential housing as well as the physical structures on site and to ensure that the operations of the campus continue through this challenging time. Designated personnel will continue to be needed to perform these responsibilities and will be confirmed by their manager.

We recognize that this time is incredibly challenging for us all. Everyone has worked hard to adapt quickly to new ways of teaching and supporting our students, including drastically changing where and how we work.

Due to the dynamic circumstances of this situation, we will continue to monitor and inform you of any changes, including information that is subject to change. We encourage you to regularly visit the campus coronavirus website that includes updates, resources and FAQs.

If you have any questions that have not been addressed, please discuss with your Dean or supervisor. You may also send questions to csuci.news@csuci.edu.

Thank you for your continued understanding and flexibility.
