Sometimes the complexity of issues and the history behind those issues make moving forward difficult, even when everyone involved wants to see progress. As a neutral and independent third-party with trained facilitation and mediation skills, the University Ombuds provides structure and perspective to help groups of all sizes work through problems safely and productively. With facilitated discussions and mediations, you remain in the driver’s seat— with a little help. Schedule a facilitation at the following link: Ombuds Facilitation.

Facilitated discussions and mediations follow a basic pattern to ensure equitable and safe participation and a mutually acceptable agreement when desired. Here is an outline that describes the general process: Facilitated Discussion Guide (PDF, 137KB). In some cases, the Ombuds Office may ask the parties to complete and share a mediation agreement.
