What math course do I sign up for if I change my major?

Select the Math you want to take based on your interested major. You will need to formally change your major with the Registrar Office. You may do so by submitting a Change of Major/Minor form.

You may view which math course is appropriate to take based on your major by reviewing the “What is the Appropriate Math Course by Major” webpage.

What if I passed the AP exam for mathematics?

If you scored a 3 or better on the AP Calculus AB, Calculus BC or Statistics exam you may be eligible to receive credit for a GE: B4 Mathematics/Quantitative Reasoning course. You will need to submit your official AP scores from College Board.

You may refer to our AP guides to view the CI equivalent course(s) you may be granted based on your score.

What if I passed the AP exam for English?

If you scored a 3 or better on the AP English Language and Composition or English Literature and Composition exam you may be eligible to receive credit for ENGL 105. ENGL 105 fulfills the General Education Requirement for English Writing (A2).

What if I completed a math course at a community college or another university?

If you have completed a CSU transferable math course at another institution you will need to submit an official transcript to the Registrar’s Office. Your transcript will be reviewed and you will be granted credit appropriately.

You may reference ASSIST.ORG for transferable courses from any California Community College.

Official transcripts can be mailed or submitted in person to the Registrar's Office in the Enrollment Center. Transcripts must be in a sealed envelope.

Do Mathes 4 and Mathes 5 satisfy the first year math requirement?

No, early start courses are not the equivalent of completing a college-level GE B4 math course at CI. Mathes 4 and Mathes 5 will only satisfy the Early Start requirement. You will still need to enroll in a college level math course along with a supporting course (if applicable).
