Black History Month Events

In honor of Black History Month, CSUCI will host several events to honor and celebrate the African American community, its rich culture and accomplishments in history.  Overall, Black History Month is an essential part of tradition in which we continue to admire positive figures, recognize achievements and celebrate.

  • Join the Multicultural Dream Center's (MDC) kick off celebration on Tuesday, February 5!

    • In collaboration with Commuter Services, the MDC will be celebrating in Central Mall East from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Join us to learn more about Black History Month and build community  with fellow students while enjoying delicious  BBQ and desserts from the It's in the Sauce Food Truck!

  • The CI Men of Color Success Initiative is pleased to present the first annual Men of Color Academic Success Workshop! The workshop will be held on Friday, February 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Petit Salon. Lunch will be provided.  Join us for tips on how to pave your path to success and learn new strategies for academic and life success. Attendees will also have the opportunity to build community and connect with faculty and staff mentors. 

  • For more than a decade, the CSU has partnered with faith-based leaders to host Super Sunday during the month of February.​ CSU leaders bring an empowering message to churches throughout California about the importance of preparing for college. 

    The next CSU Super Sunday is taking place on February 10, 2019.  Our campus will visit the following locations throughout Ventura and Santa Barbara County:

    Bethel AME Church in Oxnard, CA at 10:00 a.m.

    St. Paul Baptist Church in Oxnard, CA at 10:00 a.m.

    Moriah Bible Fellowship in Santa Barbara, CA at 10:00 a.m.

  • Black History Month Social at the Multicultural Dream Center on Tuesday, February 12!

    • From noon to 3:00 p.m. we will be celebrating in the MDC (Bell Tower 1530). Come socialize with fellow students, faculty and staff with prizes, games, and a fun space to hang out. The MDC will also have educational displays highlighting special achievements throughout history in the black community. Free food will be provided!

  • Join Black Student Union's (BSU) Theatre Nights! Free movie screenings with popcorn and snacks. Locations to be announced by February 11th.

  • Connect with the BSU during their bi-weekly meetings and study nights!

    • Their first meeting of the semester will be Wednesday, Feb. 13 from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. (location to be announced).

    • Additional BSU meeting dates: Wednesday, Feb. 27

    • BSU Study Nights in Broome Library from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

      • Wednesday, Feb. 20 (room to be announced)
