Access to Educational Records

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) is a federal law that protects the privacy of student educational records.  The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education.  FERPA gives parents certain rights with respect to their children’s education records. 

Parents wishing to discuss information related to their student’s records (including financial records and account balances) should have their student complete a FERPA authorization form (PDF 247KB)and submit it to Records and Registration in Sage Hall.  The form must be submitted in person by the student to the Records and Registration counter.  Staff at the counter will check photo ID before accepting the form. The authorization is effective from the date of submission and ends 30 days after the end of the academic year during which it was submitted.  Students may remove the authorization sooner by submitting a written request to Records and Registration.

Payments

Students can create a Parent Pin to allow parents to go online and make a payment.  Instructions on creating a Parent Pin are available as a video or a PDF (167KB). Online payments can be made by electronic check (free of charge), credit/debit card (charged a 2.75% convenience fee) or wire transfer.  Payment in the form of a check or money order can also be mailed to: Student Business Services, CSU Channel Islands, One University Drive, Camarillo, CA 93012. Please make checks payable to CI and be sure to include your student's 9-digit Student ID number.  

Refunds

Parents receiving a Parent PLUS Loan can now receive their refund through Direct Deposit.  Please complete the Parent PLUS Loan Direct Deposit form (PDF, 113KB) and mail it (along with a voided check) to: Student Business Services, CSU Channel Islands, One University Drive, Camarillo, CA 93012.

Please note that if Financial Aid disburses after an out-of-pocket payment has been applied to the student account, the out-of-pocket payment will be reimbursed directly to the original payment source.  After all reimbursements are returned, any remaining monies will be refunded via Direct Deposit.

Email Notification

Student Business Services sends official University communications (regarding payment deadlines and other important information) to the student Dolphin Email account.  If you would like to receive these notifications, it is possible for your student to automatically forward their Dolphin Email account to a personal email account.  For instructions on configuring this forwarding setup, please refer your student to the Google Support Site.  Also, please be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
