Student Support Services at CSU Channel Islands

Dear Students,

I am writing to inform you of changes that will take place in the TRIO-Student Support Services (SSS) Program and CSU Channel Islands (CSUCI). As you may know, the TRIO-SSS Program is funded through a grant from the United States Department of Education. Every five years, campuses are required to reapply for funding to keep their programs. This was the year we were required to reapply for funding for the grant. Unfortunately, despite efforts from multiple people across campus, our application was not re-funded. What this means for us is we will no longer receive funding from the U.S. Department of Education, nor will we be required operate our program under the guidelines as dictated by TRIO-SSS. Further, the formal name “TRIO-SSS” will no longer be used to describe our academic support services.

However, please know that we are still committed to your academic success. For this year, we will continue to provide you with key services and support you have been accustomed to receiving through the U.S. Department of Education TRIO-SSS program.  Additionally, we will continue to have professional staff, Peer Mentors and Graduate Interns help you as you navigate CSUCI.

Please rest assured that we are working diligently to continue providing you the support, resources and community you have come to expect as a member of TRIO-SSS.  Also, we recognize that you might have questions about how these changes will impact you as you continue with your studies here at CSUCI. To that end, we have identified a few dates to engage you in a Town Hall discussion including the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs – Retention Outreach and Inclusive Student Services, Director of Student Success & Outreach Programs, and the staff of Student Support Services. We will provide more information about the support services that will continue to be available to you, details on the transition plan moving forward, and answer any other questions that you may have.
