Celebration of Service- May 3

The Center for Community Engagement invites you to the 2013 Celebration of Service on Friday, May 3, from 11a.m. to 2 p.m. in Petit Salon, to honor faculty, community partners’ and students’ community engagement efforts.

This year, in addition to the awards luncheon and networking with community partners, the event will feature a poster session (11a.m.to 12 p.m.), highlighting several service learning projects/research. The Celebration of Service brings the community together to acknowledge the growth and impact these projects/research contribute to our students and the community.

Community Safety Day- May 4

On Saturday, May 4, the CI Police Department and University Auxiliary Services, Inc. will host the 9th Annual Safety Day at University Glen Park. This annual event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and features information on fire prevention, emergency preparedness, safety demonstrations, equipment displays, a K-9 demonstration, and the sheriff’s helicopter. Students to receive honors, awards at Honors Convocation Ceremony, May 11

CI will bestow honors on high-achieving graduating seniors during its 2013 Honors Convocation, Saturday, May 11, at 6:30 p.m. at the John Spoor Broome Library Plaza. The ceremony is open to all students earning honors and graduating from Fall 2012 through Summer 2013. To receive honors at graduation, a student must have completed a minimum of 30 units at CI for a letter grade and earned a grade point average of 3.50 or above in all CI and transfer coursework. Graduates may receive honors at one of the following three levels: cum laude for GPAs of 3.50 – 3.74; magna cum laude for GPAs of 3.75 – 3.89; and summa cum laude for GPAs of 3.90 – 4.0.

CI also celebrates the outstanding achievements of graduating seniors in areas that span the campus. Graduating President’s Scholars will be recognized during the ceremony. CI also recognizes outstanding students in each major with Program Honors, and acknowledges students with achievements in the areas of community engagement and integrative, multicultural, and international perspectives with Mission Center Awards. Graduating students who are members of the Mortar Board Four Pillars Chapter, the nation’s premier honor society, will also be recognized during the event. Additional awards will include the Senior Leadership Award, granted to students who have demonstrated exemplary student leadership, scholarship and service, and the Silver Dolphin Award, granted to student leaders who have contributed significantly to the quality of life at CI.

2nd Annual Celebration of National Employee Fitness Day- May 16th

On Thursday, May 16, President Rush will lead CI employees on a campus walk in honor of the 2nd Annual Celebration of National Employee Fitness Day. Meet in the center of our newly beautified Campus Mall at 1:30 pm. Be sure to bring your comfortable walking shoes to work this day!

Come out to enjoy some great company, stretch your legs and see some of the beauty of our campus! Generally the walk is only 20 to 30 minutes, so please join us!

Prior to the campus walk, a health related Brown Bag Lunch & Learn is being offered from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Broome Library 1310. The topic of this Lunch & Learn is Introduction to Stress Symptoms, Causes and Effects on Your Health (& Solutions!). Limited seating is available, so please RSVP to Janet Korsmo if you plan to attend.

Bring your lunch and wear comfortable clothes. We will be practicing a few techniques. We won’t be getting on the floor, but you will want to be comfortable.
