Celebrate Mathematics Awareness Month

Join in the celebration this month at CI for Mathematics Awareness Month! This year’s theme echoes the title of a 1956 book by renowned math popularizer Martin Gardner. The year 2014 marks the centennial of Gardner’s birth. Various activities are scheduled and are listed below:

Math Art Exhibit (April 3 - April 30)

Create your own math explosion of color and creativity in two (or three!) dimensions! Entries for judging must be in place by April 29, 5 p.m. Entry forms are available at El Dorado Hall Information Desk. Acceptable dimensions: 2-D: Not to exceed 3 feet x 4 feet (portrait or landscape orientation). 3-D: Not to exceed 25 lbs. For information, contact Victor Moreno at victor.moreno@csuci.edu.

Movies (7 p.m. in Broome Library, Room 1756).

A short lecture on mathematical concepts in the movies will accompany each viewing. For information, contact Monica Pereira at monica.pereira@csuci.edu.

Math From the Ground Up (April 21, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. in Broome Library Plaza)

Come and chalk out your artistic rendition of mathematical ideas, concepts, notions in the Broome Library Plaza. Drawing supplies will be provided.
